Synopsis

This is a series of workshops that empower communities of color to increase their online safety. The theory of change is to help community builders of color across the nation (English and Spanish) better understand their rights online as well as gain understanding on how online safety may be compromised through social media tools. Gaining an understanding of how social media companies’ trust and safety team operate and make decisions regarding community guidelines and safety will help leaders understand options and limitations. The ultimate goal is for community leaders trained to be able to also train their communities through a trainer approach to help scale. There is also a growing need for more of these training in multiple languages.

Successes

Workshop & Training

Host a workshop that decodes the trust and safety function within social media companies. The workshop will be in collaboration with LTX Connect. Show how Black/Brown people can secure these roles. Close examination of job listings for trust safety/policy roles, recording this for future distribution. Highlight the need for multi-language support. Host virtual office hours to help people answer these questions and care for community concerns. Create recordings: LTX Connect will reshare content on-demand targeting specific community organizations for follow-on training through its mediums. Once content is vetted through LTX Connect collaboration, the next phase will be to strategically share training content with the chief of staff of local public sector women elected officials to help their teams gain knowledge and skills in this space.
