Shifting the Script: A Theory of Change for Building a Thriving, Liberatory Tech Ecosystem

Aniyia Williams

In order to build a self-sustaining new tech ecosystem that centers collective and individual thriving, we need a critical mass of individuals and businesses who are operating based on a different cultural script.

We believe the citizens of this future already exist in the current tech ecosystem, and they are already practicing the elements of this new cultural script. They have tremendous assets, but also face significant barriers to coalescing from independent unconnected entities to an interconnected, powerful critical mass.

Assets

  • Aligned values
  • Brilliant, innovative ideas
  • Passionate, committed leaders

BARRIERS

  • Internalized dominant culture, systems and incentives
  • Aggressively suppressionist white supremacist extractive capitalists
  • Isolation
  • Dearth of funding and values-aligned revenue models

TTWW is uniquely positioned to address these barriers and hasten the becoming of this emergent ecosystem by:

  1. Using our proximity to established power and financial resources to shift both to non-traditional decision-makers at the margins.

  2. Using our network to strategically connect individuals to institutions, building bridges between those with resources and those who need resources.

  3. Unlearning dominant culture, experimenting and incentivizing with liberatory, pro-social cultural infrastructures, and sharing them to facilitate the building of new coalitions with even greater power.

  4. Identifying, adapting, inventing and funding experiments with new values-aligned revenue models, labor practices, and other economic infrastructure.

  5. Collecting and amplifying stories of innovation and liberation, while synthesizing a new cultural narrative.
