What Is The Tech We Want?

WHAT WE DO

Our Purpose

TTWW is working to unite, resource, and grow the power of an emergent tech ecosystem that is redefining what technology can and should be—responsible, sustainable, accountable, and mutualistic.

How do we Engage with this work?

Our relationship with technology matters and we believe the tech industry’s products and practices should balance people, purpose and profit.

Community & Coalition

Building a Network of Aligned Changemakers and Funders

Experimentation & Infrastructure

Investing in Responsible Innovation & Alternative Models

Narrative & Culture

Amplifying stories of innovation and liberation, while synthesizing a new cultural narrative.

Why We Are Doing This

Technology impacts nearly every facet of our lives. This ongoing evolution presents both a challenge and an opportunity. We are building an alternative that is so compelling and inclusive—drawing people to innovate with us. By fostering connections and relationships, we sustain diverse success stories that reflect our values and inspire others to follow a similar path toward meaningful innovation and progress.

How We Are Doing This

The Tech We Want Projects

We believe the citizens of the future we want already exist in the current tech ecosystem, and they are already practicing the elements of this new cultural script. They have tremendous assets, but also face significant barriers to coalescing from independent unconnected entities to an interconnected, powerful critical mass. The Tech We Want is uniquely positioned to address these barriers and hasten the becoming of this new tech ecosystem.

Our Guiding Principles

The Tech We Want is…

Created in the open.

Our work contributes to collective knowledge and is shared in the digital commons. We work with diverse collaborators and in public view.

Designed to do good.

We want tech that is beneficial, not just neutral. We promote the thriving of all people and elevate the best in human nature.

Rights-preserving.

We build in service of universally recognized human rights. We support digital rights including accessibility, privacy, and data autonomy.

Sustaining and sustainable.

We prioritize the care and well-being of the environment and all living things. We build to honor and connect generations.

Built to reduce harm.

We recognize that use and abuse of technology to do harm is inevitable. We design to protect the most vulnerable people.

Usable, reusable, and repairable.

We prioritize agency and ease of use and design for user repair. We build with reclaimable materials and to minimize waste.

Engineered for accountability.

We make decisions about what, how, and for whom we build openly and transparently. We cannot delegate responsibility for our decisions.

Measured for impact.

We accept responsibility for outcomes. We evaluate our real-world impact and work to reduce harm and address inequities.

Our Community

Our community consists of leaders, innovators, funders, and changemakers intimately connected to the problems they aim to solve. Those closest to the problem are often best equipped to find solutions. The usual suspects won’t cut it. To achieve the tech we want, we are creating a hub for trustful connections among leaders, tech creators, and builders dedicated to fostering a more inclusive and equitable tech ecosystem.

Our Impact

Our impact reflects the seeds we’ve sown. The Tech We Want (TTWW) has cultivated a tech alternative by amplifying voices in representative communities, building coalitions that center those communities, and facilitating authentic connections and collaboration.

We seek new partnerships, grow coalitions, shift narratives, and enhance our capacity to balance people, purpose, and profit in this new paradigm.

We are committed to fostering equitable tech spaces that prioritize human thriving and ethical innovation, ensuring that technology serves us all.
